The face material is the top layer of the label, on which inks and effects are applied, and which is visible to the user. The choice of face material for the top layer of the label affects the final look of each design because its color and finish change and creates the base for the inks and the effects that are applied on top.
Matte face materials get this effect mainly because they are not processed in any way and allow a large amount of the applied inks effects to be absorbed into the material, which further enhances the matte finish of the final design.
Semi-gloss face finishes are one of the most widely used printed materials because they provide an optimal combination of properties, preserving the effect of inks and creating a slight shine of the material itself when illuminated.
High-gloss face materials have the ability to catch the user’s attention and are designed to meet the needs of even the boldest design solutions. The high-gloss look is also transferred to inks and the effects and properly used can create highly memorable labels.
Some printing materials have a structure that is the result of the way the material is created and processed. The structures can be very different and often designers use them by integrating them into the design of the label.
