Labels have many different applications and can be meant for use at the multiple stages of furniture production. Depending on its purpuse, a label must combine several properties: the design should address the needs of the product and the buyer; the provided information must meet all legal and regulatory requirements; the materials should be selected to match the expected usage conditions and application.
Labels for wooden surfaces
The industry often requires the ability for labels to adhere firmly to wood or wood-effect materials. These surface can be a real challenge. They may be textured, lacquered or be curvy or irregularly shaped so that the label must be good enough to remain securely in place.
For labels intended for wooden surfaces or surfaces similar to wood, the conditions under which the label will be used determine the specification. In most cases, these are just temporary labels used during transport, sale, delivery of the furniture. These get removed once the product is ready for use.
Other times self-adhesive labels may need to remain adhered throughout the product`s life to keep the information about the moidel, warranty conditions or other details that may be needed at some point.
Labels for film surfaces
Furniture components ahead of assembly, especially in upholstered furniture, are often wrapped in protective film. It protects them against moisture and minor physical impact, so that the product is delivered in goodcondition. The film can also be the inner layer of the packaging, providing a primary protective function.
Self-adhesive labels intended for fim packaging on furniture and furniture components must handle the flexible surface, maintaining their integrity through the process of delivery and assembly. Sometimes, especially with warning labels for fragile products, the right ink plays an important role alongside the adhesive and the chosen label substrate.
Labels for paper and cardboard surfaces
One of the typical expectations of the end consumer is that the furniture will be delivered in parts carefully packaged in sturdy cardboard boxes shaped to fit the components inside. This outer packaging interacts directly with the environment and absorbs most of the physical impact throughout the supply chain.
Cardboard is one of the most commonly used packaging material for label manufacturers. Even so, it is important to consider that its surface can be uneven and can impact the strength of the adhesive. Cardboard packaging frequently carries warning labels in bold colors and labels related to the sale and transportation of th product.
