Base materials

The base material, also known as the face material, is the base medium on which the self-adhesive label is printed. The main material plays a major role in the appearance and functionality of the label, and what storage and usage characteristics it will have.

There are many options for basic materials to choose from for your label designs, many of which are standard for different applications. There are also non-standard options that are implemented in close collaboration between the printing house and brand owners.

Paper

Paper is a commonly used material in label printing because it offers the most economical solution for creating high-quality labels, as well as a choice of high-quality and luxury paper for products in the higher price range.   • standard paper – the standard paper is the most accessible material for printing labels and is often used for informational and transportation labels that are not meant for retail purposes.

  • structured paper – the structured paper contains arranged in patterns or random structure achieved naturally during production or through further processing of the material. Often the structure gives a unique base for the label and the professionals can incorporate it in the design.

  • eco and recycled paper - eco and recycled papers are suitable for products considering their environmental effects and target consumers with such awareness.

Uncoated paper

The uncoated paper is unprocessed and has retained its porosity. It can absorb the inks and effects with which it is printed, so that they become part of its structure. Uncoated paper is very suitable for high-quality printing of labels, which aim to recreate an aesthetic and natural feeling of the product.

Coated paper

The coated paper is processed at the factory during production and provides a base that is suitable for very high-quality printing with bright and vivid colors. It has enhanced durability and longevity of the label.

Films

Films and films are synthetic materials that provide a very high level of durability and the qualities required for specific applications. Depending on the type of material, labels may have different characteristics and appearance. They are extremely suitable for adhering on smooth surfaces, providing durability in various conditions and a great base possibility of high-quality printing.
  • Polypropylene (PP) - a stable material wit medium flexibility, used in cases where the label must be durable and stable during adhesion to the product
  • Polyethylene (PE) - extremely flexible material, which can be very thin and is preferred in cases where the label must be affixed to a package with a small radius

  • Polyester (PET) - extremely durable material that is used in cases where the label must have high resistance to environmental factors

  • Metallized foil - metallized foil has a silver or gold finish, very suitable for printing labels for luxury products

  • Polyamide - a material with high heat resistance, which makes it suitable for labels for electronics and other similar applications

  • Vinyl - provides a high level of flexibility and tensile strength, making it suitable for product labels that are used or stored outdoors

  • Other materials - there are a number of other synthetic materials that are suitable for specific applications
